Psalm 28:7 – Meaning & Devotional
"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him."
What This Verse Means
David traces a beautiful chain reaction: God is strength (empowerment) and shield (protection), which produces trust, which results in help, which generates rejoicing, which overflows in song. Each link leads naturally to the next.
Notice the personal pronouns: MY strength, MY shield, MY heart. This is not abstract theology but intimate experience. David doesn't just know about God — he knows God personally.
Historical Context
Psalm 28 begins with desperate pleading — David cries out to God fearing He might be silent. By verse 7, the answer has come, and David's desperation has turned to dancing. The psalm charts the journey from crisis to confidence.
How to Apply This Today
Trust the chain reaction. When you're weak, look to God as your strength. When you're threatened, lean on Him as your shield. From trust comes help, from help comes joy, and from joy comes a song. Start the chain by trusting.
