Psalm 34:1 – Meaning & Devotional
"I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth."
What This Verse Means
David makes a comprehensive commitment: 'at all times' and 'continually.' Not just when life is good, not just on Sundays, not just when he feels like it — always. Praise becomes a lifestyle, not an occasional event.
This is a decision of the will, not a response to circumstances. David determines to bless the Lord regardless of what is happening around him.
Historical Context
David wrote this after pretending to be insane before King Achish of Gath to save his life — one of his most humiliating moments. Yet from that embarrassment, he chose to praise God. If David could praise in that situation, we can praise in ours.
How to Apply This Today
Make praise your default setting, not your emergency response. When you wake up — praise. When things go wrong — praise. When you don't feel like it — praise. 'At all times' means all times.
