Joshua 24:15 – Meaning & Devotional
"But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."
What This Verse Means
Joshua's declaration is a bold personal commitment that extends to his entire household. While others may waver, Joshua draws a clear line: his family will serve God regardless of what the culture chooses.
This statement acknowledges that serving God is a choice — one that must be made deliberately and renewed continually. Joshua doesn't assume his family will drift into faithfulness; he declares it.
Historical Context
At the end of his life, Joshua gathered all Israel at Shechem and reviewed God's faithfulness. He then challenged them to choose between the gods of their ancestors and the Lord who delivered them from Egypt.
How to Apply This Today
Make a clear, spoken commitment to serve the Lord with your household. Don't let your family's spiritual direction happen by default — lead it intentionally.
