    John 10:27-28 – Meaning & Devotional

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."

    — John 10:27-28 (KJV)

    What This Verse Means

Jesus describes three characteristics of His sheep: they hear His voice, He knows them personally, and they follow Him. In return, He gives them three assurances: eternal life, they will never perish, and no one can snatch them from His hand.

The security of the believer rests not on the sheep's ability to hold on to the Shepherd but on the Shepherd's ability to hold on to the sheep. 'Neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand' is an unbreakable promise of divine protection. Our eternal security is as strong as the hand of Christ.

    Historical Context

Jesus used the shepherd metaphor during the Feast of Dedication (Hanukkah) in Jerusalem. The Jewish leaders demanded He declare plainly whether He was the Messiah. Jesus pointed to the relationship between Himself and His followers as evidence of His identity and their security.

    How to Apply This Today

If you have heard Christ's voice, believed, and followed Him, you are secure in His hand. No force in the universe can remove you from His grip. Let this assurance free you from fear and fill you with confidence in your eternal destiny.
