John 11:25 – Meaning & Devotional
"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live."
What This Verse Means
Jesus doesn't merely promise resurrection — He claims to BE the resurrection. This is one of His most powerful 'I AM' statements, declaring that life and death are under His authority.
The promise extends beyond physical resurrection to spiritual reality. Even physical death cannot separate believers from the life found in Christ.
Historical Context
Jesus spoke these words to Martha outside the tomb of her brother Lazarus, who had been dead four days. Moments later, Jesus would demonstrate His authority over death by raising Lazarus — a preview of His own resurrection.
How to Apply This Today
When death — whether physical, relational, or circumstantial — seems to have the final word, remember that Jesus IS the resurrection. He has power to bring life from any death.
