Isaiah 6:8 – Meaning & Devotional
"Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me."
What This Verse Means
After experiencing a vision of God's holiness and receiving personal cleansing, Isaiah overhears God's question: 'Who will go?' His immediate response — 'Here am I; send me' — flows from encounter, not obligation.
The sequence matters: worship, then cleansing, then calling. We don't serve God to earn His favor; we serve because we've experienced His glory and grace.
Historical Context
Isaiah received this vision in the year King Uzziah died — a time of national uncertainty. In the earthly throne's vacancy, Isaiah saw the heavenly throne's fullness. His commission would involve proclaiming difficult truths to an unreceptive people.
How to Apply This Today
God is still asking 'Who will go?' Are you willing to say 'Here am I'? It may not mean overseas missions — it could mean being faithful in your workplace, neighborhood, or family. Availability is the starting point.
