Hebrews 11:6 – Meaning & Devotional
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
What This Verse Means
This verse establishes faith as the non-negotiable requirement for a relationship with God. Two beliefs are essential: that God exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
Faith pleases God because it takes Him at His word. When we trust His promises without visible proof, we honor His character. God is not just to be believed in — He is to be sought after, and He rewards that pursuit.
Historical Context
After defining faith (11:1) and illustrating it with Abel and Enoch (11:2-5), the author states this universal principle. Enoch was 'translated' because he pleased God — and the way to please God is through faith.
How to Apply This Today
Make faith the foundation of your daily life, not just a crisis response. Believe that God exists and that seeking Him is never wasted. He rewards those who pursue Him diligently.
