Introduction
David widens the prayer from family flourishing (v. 12) to national plenty. The picture is of overflowing barns and exploding flocks — abundance that exceeds use.
Historical Context
In Israel the storehouse was the measure of God's covenant blessing (Deuteronomy 28:8). David asks the LORD to honor His covenant by filling them.
Original Language Insights
'Garners' (mezavim) — storehouses, granaries.
'All manner of store' — variety as well as quantity. God's generosity is not monotone.
'Thousands and ten thousands' — Hebrew hyperbole for uncountable increase.
Theological Significance
Abundance is not a problem to apologize for when it comes from God's hand. The Giver Himself delights to give 'pressed down, and shaken together, and running over' (Luke 6:38).
Practical Application
Receive plenty with thanks, hold it with open hands, and let it overflow into others. That is the cycle abundance is meant to complete.
