Bible Verses About the Rapture

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

"For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body."

"For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ."

"Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left."

"Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ."

"And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body."

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is."

What does the Bible say about the rapture?

The rapture refers to the event described by Paul in 1 Thessalonians 4, where living believers are 'caught up' to meet the Lord in the air at His coming. While Christians hold different views on its timing relative to the tribulation, the promise itself is clear: Jesus is coming for His people, and we will be with Him forever. Key King James Version passages include 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, John 14:3. This page collects 10 KJV verses about the rapture, each quoted in full.

What is the rapture in the Bible?

The rapture (from Latin 'rapturo,' meaning 'caught up') refers to the event described in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 where Christ descends, the dead in Christ rise first, then living believers are caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air. It is the moment of reunion and bodily transformation for all believers.

When will the rapture happen?

Christians hold different views: pre-tribulation (before the tribulation), mid-tribulation, and post-tribulation (at Christ's visible return). All agree that the exact timing is unknown and that believers should live in constant readiness (Matthew 24:44).
