What does the Bible say about handling criticism?

Criticism comes in two forms: constructive correction from those who love us, and destructive attacks from those who don't. The Bible gives wisdom for navigating both. Key King James Version passages include Proverbs 27:6, Proverbs 12:1, Proverbs 15:31-32. This page collects 10 KJV verses about handling criticism, each quoted in full.

How should a Christian handle criticism?

Evaluate whether the criticism is truthful (Proverbs 27:6), receive valid correction humbly (Proverbs 12:1), respond to unfair criticism with grace (1 Peter 2:23), and seek God's approval above human opinions (Galatians 1:10).

Is all criticism bad?

No. Proverbs teaches that wise correction is a gift (Psalm 141:5, Proverbs 9:8-9). Constructive criticism from trustworthy people helps us grow. The key is discerning the source, the motive, and the truth content of the criticism.
