What does the Bible say about affliction?

Affliction is a recurring theme in Scripture — not as something God ignores, but as something He redeems. The psalmists cried out from affliction, the prophets endured it, and the apostles counted it as a pathway to deeper faith. Key King James Version passages include Psalm 34:19, 2 Corinthians 4:17, Psalm 119:71. This page collects 10 KJV verses about affliction, each quoted in full.

Why does God allow affliction?

Scripture teaches that affliction can refine faith (Isaiah 48:10), build character (Romans 5:3-4), teach God's Word (Psalm 119:71), and equip us to comfort others (2 Corinthians 1:4). God uses suffering redemptively.

Does affliction mean God is punishing me?

Not necessarily. While sin has consequences, affliction is often unrelated to specific sin. Job suffered greatly despite his righteousness. God uses affliction for purposes beyond punishment, including growth, refinement, and testimony.
