'Mecholal' means pierced through, wounded, or profaned—from 'chalal' (to pierce). It describes a fatal, penetrating wound. Combined with 'min' (because of/for), it establishes substitution: He was pierced for OUR transgressions. The suffering was vicarious, not for His own sins.
