Historical Context
Moses spoke these words around 1406 BC in the plains of Moab, just before Israel crossed the Jordan into Canaan. At 120 years old, Moses knew he would not enter the Promised Land. This was his farewell charge to a nation that had wandered 40 years in the wilderness and now faced fortified Canaanite cities.
Original Language
'Lo yarpe'kha' means 'He will not let go of you' or 'He will not slacken His grip.' 'Raphah' means to relax or release—God will never loosen His hold on His people. Combined with 'lo ya'azvekha' (not forsake you), it forms a double promise of unfailing presence.
