    Judges 14 Summary

    Judges 14 begins the Samson narrative with his desire to marry a Philistine woman from Timnah. Despite his parents' objections, Samson insists, and Scripture notes that this was 'of the LORD' who sought an occasion against the Philistines. On the journey, Samson kills a lion with his bare hands, and later finds honey in its carcass.

    At his wedding feast, Samson poses a riddle based on the lion and honey. When the Philistines pressure his wife to extract the answer, Samson's anger erupts. He kills thirty Philistines to pay his wager, and his wife is given to another man, setting the stage for escalating conflict.
