Philippians 2:10-11 – Meaning & Devotional
"That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
What This Verse Means
Because Jesus humbled Himself to the point of death on a cross, God exalted Him to the highest place. The result: universal acknowledgment that Jesus Christ is Lord. Every knee — in heaven, on earth, and under the earth — will bow. Every tongue will confess.
This is not a hope but a certainty. The only question is whether we bow willingly now or compelled later. Either way, Jesus will be acknowledged as Lord of all.
Historical Context
Paul quotes Isaiah 45:23, where God declares that every knee will bow to HIM alone. By applying this to Jesus, Paul makes an unmistakable claim: Jesus Christ is God, worthy of the same worship and confession as Yahweh.
How to Apply This Today
Don't wait for the final day to bow your knee. Submit every area of your life to Jesus' lordship now — your career, relationships, finances, decisions, and dreams. The joy of willing worship now far surpasses forced acknowledgment later.
