Put a daily Bible verse on your Android or Samsung screen
Android handles verse widgets slightly differently from iPhone: most launchers place widgets on the home screen, while Samsung phones let you add scripture text to the Always On Display and lock screen directly. Both routes take about two minutes and neither requires a paid app.
Bible Verse Widget for Android & Samsung Lock Screen
- 1
Long-press an empty home screen area
Press and hold any blank part of the home screen until the wallpaper, widget and settings menu appears at the bottom.
- 2
Open Widgets
Tap Widgets, then scroll or search for a Bible or verse-of-the-day widget you have installed.
- 3
Drag it into place
Press and hold the widget preview and drag it to the home screen panel you want. Resize by dragging the handles.
- 4
Samsung lock screen text
On Samsung: Settings → Lock screen → Contact information (or AOD text) and type a short verse such as 'The LORD is my shepherd — Psalm 23:1'. It shows under the clock.
- 5
Set a verse wallpaper
Open our daily verse page, screenshot it, then long-press the home screen → Wallpapers → Gallery and apply it to the lock screen.
- 6
Automate a new verse daily
Samsung Modes and Routines (or Tasker on other Androids) can change the wallpaper at a set time each morning, so a new verse appears without you touching it.
Worth knowing
- One UI, Pixel Launcher, Nova and Microsoft Launcher all support widgets, but only Samsung exposes editable lock screen text out of the box.
- Keep lock screen text under about 40 characters or Samsung truncates it.
- Dark-mode wallpapers make white verse text far easier to read at night.
- If the widget stops refreshing, exclude the app from battery optimisation in Settings → Battery → Background usage limits.
Prefer it on your website?
The same daily KJV verse can sit on any website with one line of HTML — churches, blogs and homeschool pages use it every day. Here is the live widget:
Common questions
How do I add a Bible verse widget on Samsung?
Long-press the home screen, tap Widgets, choose a Bible verse widget and drag it onto a panel. For the lock screen itself, go to Settings → Lock screen → Contact information and type a short verse.
Can Android show a different verse every day?
Yes. A verse-of-the-day widget refreshes on its own, and Samsung Modes and Routines or Tasker can swap a verse wallpaper on a daily schedule.
Is there a free option with no app at all?
Yes — screenshot a daily verse page and set it as your lock screen wallpaper from the Gallery.
Do the verses cost anything?
No. The King James Version is public domain, so every verse on Bible Sundays is free to save, share and display.
