At Jesus' baptism, all three persons are present: the Son is baptized, the Spirit descends like a dove, and the Father speaks from heaven (Matthew 3:16-17). Jesus commanded baptism 'in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost' (Matthew 28:19) — one name, three persons. The doctrine holds that God is one in essence but three in person. Each person is fully God: the Father is God (1 Corinthians 8:6), the Son is God (John 1:1), and the Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5:3-4). Yet there are not three Gods but one (Deuteronomy 6:4). The three persons are distinct — the Father sends the Son, the Son sends the Spirit, and the Spirit glorifies the Son. This is not a contradiction but a mystery that reflects the infinite nature of God. The Trinity is essential to salvation: the Father plans it, the Son accomplishes it, and the Spirit applies it to believers' hearts.
