What "What Are the Names of God in the Bible?" Actually Means
God's names in Scripture are not mere labels but revelations of who He is. Elohim emphasizes His power as Creator. Yahweh (Jehovah) is His personal covenant name, revealed to Moses at the burning bush. Adonai presents Him as Lord and Master. El Shaddai means God Almighty. He is also revealed in compound names: Jehovah-Jireh ('The LORD Will Provide'), Jehovah-Rapha ('The LORD Who Heals'), Jehovah-Nissi ('The LORD My Banner'), Jehovah-Shalom ('The LORD Our Peace'), Jehovah-Tsidkenu ('The LORD Our Righteousness'), Jehovah-Shammah ('The LORD Is There'), and Jehovah-Raah ('The LORD My Shepherd'). The New Testament adds Father, Abba, and supremely the name above every name — Jesus, meaning 'the LORD saves.' To know God's names is to know God Himself.
