The Destruction of Jerusalem
Christ's prophecy fulfilled when Rome destroyed the temple.
Christ wept over Jerusalem and warned that not one stone of the temple would be left upon another. Within forty years, in AD 70, the Roman armies under Titus fulfilled His word in dreadful precision.
The Prophecy
"...Verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down."
"For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground..."
"And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh."
Stone upon stone
Josephus records that Titus had the temple thrown down so thoroughly that no one passing would have believed a city had ever stood there — Christ's words verified to the letter.
A warning hearkened
Eusebius records that the Christians, remembering Christ's words, fled to Pella when the armies approached — and were preserved.
