Leah
Unloved Wife, Mother of Judah
Jacob's first wife — unloved by her husband yet honoured by God as the mother of Judah, ancestor of Christ.
Leah was Laban's elder daughter, given to Jacob through deception (Genesis 29:23-25). 'When the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb' (29:31 KJV). She bore six of the twelve tribes of Israel — including Levi (the priestly line) and Judah (the royal and messianic line).
Her Story
Each son was named with longing: Reuben — 'surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.' Simeon — 'the LORD hath heard that I was hated.' Levi — 'now this time will my husband be joined unto me.' Then with Judah she said, 'now will I praise the LORD' — and stopped naming sons after Jacob's affection. Through Judah came David and Christ. Leah was buried with Jacob at Machpelah (Genesis 49:31) — the only one of Jacob's wives in the patriarchal tomb.

Why is Leah called 'hated'?
Hebrew idiom — it means 'loved less,' not actively despised (compare Luke 14:26). Jacob loved Rachel more, and Leah felt it deeply. God responded with what only He could give — fruitfulness and a place in the messianic line.
Why is Leah buried with Jacob and not Rachel?
Genesis 49:31 records Jacob's own statement that he buried Leah at Machpelah — the patriarchal tomb. Rachel was buried near Bethlehem. By the end, Leah held the place of covenantal honour beside Jacob.
