The Plain Meaning
David declares his confidence in God using three powerful metaphors: light (guidance), salvation (deliverance), and strength (protection). With God as all three, fear loses its power.
Word Study
'Or' means light—the first thing God created (Genesis 1:3). With the possessive suffix 'i' (my), David claims God as his personal light source. In Hebrew thought, light represents truth, guidance, life, and salvation—all contrasted with the darkness of fear and death.
