    Historical Context

    David wrote this acrostic praise psalm, likely near the end of his life around 970 BC. It was so valued that the Talmud declared anyone who recited it three times daily was assured a place in the world to come. The emphasis on God being 'near' countered pagan views of distant, disinterested deities.
