What Does Philippians 4:13 Mean?
Philippians 4:13 meaning explained verse-by-verse: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me...." Original language, context & application.
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
— Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
The Plain Meaning
Paul wrote this from prison, explaining that he had learned to be content in any circumstance. The 'all things' refers to enduring both abundance and want, both plenty and hunger, through Christ's empowering strength.
Word Study
'Endynamoō' means to empower or strengthen from within. It combines 'en' (in) and 'dynamis' (power)—the same root as 'dynamite.' Christ's power works from inside the believer, not as external force but as internal transformation enabling endurance.
Living It Out
This verse reminds us that Christ gives us strength to face any situation—not necessarily to accomplish anything we desire, but to endure and remain faithful in all circumstances.
