Exposition
God reminds us of the vast difference between His perspective and ours. His ways are infinitely higher and wiser than human understanding.
Historical Setting
Isaiah wrote this during a period of national crisis around 700 BC. The people questioned God's methods and timing. This passage comes within an invitation to seek the Lord (v. 6), suggesting that God's higher ways include His mercy and redemption plan—ways beyond human scheming and expectation.
Original Language Notes
'Machsh'votay' means my thoughts, plans, or purposes—from 'chashav' (to think, devise). God's cognitive processes are qualitatively different from ours—not just smarter but operating on an entirely different plane, as immeasurably higher as the heavens above the earth.
Pastoral Application
When life doesn't make sense, remember that God's perspective is infinitely greater than ours. Trust His ways even when you can't understand them.
