Exposition
Peter encourages believers to transfer their worries and anxieties to God. The reason we can do this is because God genuinely cares for us as a loving Father.
Historical Setting
Peter wrote this letter around AD 62-64 from Rome (referred to as 'Babylon') to persecuted Christians scattered across Asia Minor. These believers were suffering social ostracism, economic persecution, and increasing threats of violence under Nero's growing hostility toward Christians.
Original Language Notes
'Epirriptō' means to throw upon or cast forcefully—the same word used in Luke 19:35 for throwing garments on the colt for Jesus' triumphal entry. It's a decisive, deliberate action—not gently setting worries aside but forcefully hurling them onto God.
Pastoral Application
Worry is natural, but we're not meant to carry it alone. God invites us to cast—actively throw—our anxieties onto Him because He is concerned about every detail of our lives.
