    2 Kings 9 Summary

    2 Kings 9 records Jehu's anointing as king over Israel and his violent purge of Ahab's house. Jehu killed King Joram, King Ahaziah of Judah, and Jezebel, whose death fulfilled Elijah's prophecy — she was thrown from a window and eaten by dogs.

    Jehu's zeal was fierce and effective, but ultimately self-serving. He executed God's judgment against Ahab's house but went beyond what was necessary, and his own dynasty would later be condemned for excessive violence (Hosea 1:4).
