Colossians 1:27 – Meaning & Devotional
"To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."
What This Verse Means
Paul reveals the great mystery that was hidden for ages: Christ dwelling inside believers. Not merely Christ 'for' you (substitution) or Christ 'with' you (companionship), but Christ 'in' you (indwelling). This is the hope of glory — the guarantee of future glorification.
This truth was especially shocking for Gentile believers — they, who were once excluded from God's covenants, now had the Messiah living inside them. The same Christ who fills the universe takes up residence in human hearts.
Historical Context
Paul wrote to counter false teachers in Colossae who promoted a secret knowledge for spiritual elites. Paul reveals the real mystery — and it's available to everyone: Christ Himself, living within every believer, whether Jew or Gentile.
How to Apply This Today
You are not just trying to follow Christ from a distance — He lives inside you. Let that truth change how you face today. The power, wisdom, and love of Christ are already within you through the Holy Spirit.
