The lesson is that worship must be according to God's command, not human invention. God is holy, and those who draw near to Him must draw near on His terms. The prohibition against 'strange fire' extends to every generation. Any worship that adds to God's Word, substitutes human tradition for divine command, or approaches God with a casual spirit is offering strange fire. Nadab's story is a sobering reminder that privilege does not guarantee faithfulness. He had seen more of God's glory than almost anyone in Israel, yet he presumed upon that privilege and lost his life.
