The Biblical Context
Genesis 5:24 records Enoch's remarkable exit: 'And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.' Hebrews 11:5 elaborates: 'By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.' Enoch was the seventh generation from Adam, the father of Methuselah, and the great-grandfather of Noah. Jude 1:14-15 records a prophecy by Enoch about the Lord's coming in judgment with ten thousands of His saints. Enoch's life demonstrates that a deep, consistent walk with God is possible even in a corrupt generation. He lived 365 years total — short compared to his contemporaries who lived 700-900 years. Along with Elijah (2 Kings 2:11), Enoch is one of only two people who left earth without dying.
