What "What Is the Hypostatic Union?" Actually Means
The hypostatic union describes the mystery of the incarnation. In the Person of Jesus Christ, two complete natures — divine and human — are joined in one Person, without confusion, without change, without division, and without separation. Christ is not half God and half man, nor is He two persons. He is one Person who possesses all the attributes of true deity and all the attributes of true humanity. 'The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us' (John 1:14). This union is essential to the gospel. As God, Christ's sacrifice has infinite value; as man, He could stand in our place. Only a divine-human Mediator could reconcile God and sinners.
