What Does the Parable of the Sower Mean — Meaning Explained

The Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:3-23, Mark 4:3-20, Luke 8:5-15) is one of few parables Jesus interpreted Himself. The seed is the Word of God. The wayside soil represents those who hear but don't understand — Satan immediately snatches the word away (Matthew 13:19). The stony ground represents those who receive it joyfully but have no root — when tribulation or persecution comes, they fall away (13:20-21). The thorny soil represents those who hear but are choked by 'the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches' (13:22). The good soil represents those who hear, understand, and bear fruit — 'some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty' (13:23).
