What "Why Does God Allow Suffering?" Actually Means
Suffering is one of humanity's deepest questions, and the Bible addresses it extensively. James 1:2-4 instructs, 'Count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.' Romans 5:3-5 traces a progression: tribulation produces patience, patience experience, and experience hope. Paul's own sufferings were immense (2 Corinthians 11:23-28), yet he concluded, 'Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory' (2 Corinthians 4:17). Romans 8:28 promises that 'all things work together for good to them that love God.' The Book of Job demonstrates that suffering is not always punishment for sin — sometimes God has purposes beyond human understanding. Peter adds that trials test faith 'much more precious than of gold that perisheth' (1 Peter 1:7). Ultimately, God Himself suffered in Christ, entering into human pain to redeem it.
