What "Should Christians Observe the Sabbath Today?" Actually Means
The fourth commandment establishes the Sabbath: 'Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy' (Exodus 20:8). The original Sabbath was Saturday (the seventh day), and Seventh-day Adventists continue this practice. Most Christians worship on Sunday in honor of Christ's resurrection. Paul taught that Sabbath observance is a matter of personal conviction: 'One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind' (Romans 14:5). Colossians 2:16-17 calls the Sabbath a 'shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.' Hebrews 4:9-10 speaks of a 'rest' for God's people that transcends any weekly observance — a spiritual rest found in Christ.
