At the Transfiguration, Peter, James, and John recognized Moses and Elijah — men who had lived centuries earlier (Matthew 17:3-4). In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, the rich man recognized both Lazarus and Abraham in the afterlife (Luke 16:23). Paul comforted the Thessalonians about their deceased loved ones, implying a joyful reunion: 'we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them… and so shall we ever be with the Lord' (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
