What "Does God Speak Through Dreams?" Actually Means
Dreams and visions are significant means of divine communication in Scripture. God spoke to Jacob in a dream at Bethel (Genesis 28:12-15). Joseph received prophetic dreams (Genesis 37:5-10) and interpreted Pharaoh's (Genesis 41). Daniel received visions of future kingdoms (Daniel 7-8). In the New Testament, Joseph was warned in a dream to flee to Egypt (Matthew 2:13), the wise men were warned not to return to Herod (Matthew 2:12), and Pilate's wife suffered in a dream concerning Jesus (Matthew 27:19). Peter quoted Joel on the day of Pentecost: 'Your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions' (Acts 2:17). However, Scripture is the final authority. Any dream or vision must be tested against God's written Word (Isaiah 8:20, 1 John 4:1). Not every dream is from God — some arise from natural causes (Ecclesiastes 5:3). God's primary revelation is complete in Scripture, and dreams must always be subordinate to it.
