What "What Does Jehovah-Shammah Mean?" Actually Means
Jehovah-Shammah appears as the final word of the book of Ezekiel, naming the restored city where God dwells with His people forever. The prophet had earlier watched in sorrow as the glory of the LORD departed from the temple because of Israel's sin. But the closing vision promises a city whose very name proclaims that God has returned to dwell with His people. This anticipates the New Jerusalem of Revelation 21, where the dwelling of God is with men, He will wipe away every tear, and there will be no more death or sorrow. Jehovah-Shammah is the God who refuses to abandon His people — He pursues, redeems, and finally dwells with them forever.
