Jehovah-Raah (also spelled Rohi) is drawn from Psalm 23, where David — himself a shepherd — declares, 'The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.' This name pictures God's tender care, guidance, and protection of His people. A shepherd leads to green pastures and still waters, restores the wandering soul, walks beside the sheep through dark valleys, and protects them with rod and staff. Jesus claims this role for Himself in John 10: 'I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.' He knows His sheep by name, lays down His life for them, and promises that no one can pluck them out of His hand. Jehovah-Raah is the God who personally shepherds every one of His own.
