What "Will There Be Marriage in Heaven?" Actually Means
When the Sadducees tested Jesus with a question about a woman married to seven brothers, He replied: 'In the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven' (Matthew 22:30). This doesn't mean relationships cease but that the institution of marriage as we know it will be transcended. Marriage on earth serves as a picture of Christ's relationship with the church (Ephesians 5:32)—in heaven, we'll experience the reality the picture pointed to. Earthly marriages, while beautiful, are temporary shadows of a greater union. Believers will know and love one another more deeply, not less. The joy of human love will be fulfilled and surpassed in the perfect community of the redeemed, centered on Christ the Bridegroom.
