What "What Does the Bible Say About Forgiving Yourself?" Actually Means
Many Christians struggle with forgiving themselves even after receiving God's forgiveness. While Scripture doesn't directly address 'self-forgiveness,' it provides the foundation for it. If God 'remembereth them no more' (Hebrews 10:17) and removes sins 'as far as the east is from the west' (Psalm 103:12), refusing to forgive ourselves elevates our standard above God's. Paul, who persecuted Christians, wrote: 'forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before' (Philippians 3:13). He acknowledged his past without being paralyzed by it. Romans 8:1 declares 'there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.' Persistent guilt after genuine repentance is not conviction from the Holy Spirit but accusation from the enemy (Revelation 12:10). Accepting God's forgiveness is an act of faith that honors the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice.
