What "What are the seven churches of Revelation?" Actually Means
In Revelation 2-3, the risen Christ dictates seven letters to seven churches in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). Each letter follows a pattern: a description of Christ, commendation, criticism (except Smyrna and Philadelphia), a warning, and a promise to overcomers. Ephesus had left its first love; Smyrna faced persecution; Pergamos tolerated false teaching; Thyatira allowed Jezebel-like corruption; Sardis was spiritually dead; Philadelphia had an open door despite weakness; and Laodicea was lukewarm.
