    Numbers 23 Summary

    Numbers 23 contains the first two of Balaam's oracles over Israel. Hired by King Balak of Moab to curse Israel, Balaam instead delivers blessings. In his first oracle, he declares that God has not cursed Israel and that they are a people set apart. In his second oracle, he proclaims God's faithfulness and that no enchantment can prevail against Israel.

    Balak is frustrated and moves Balaam to different locations, hoping a change of scenery will change the prophecy. But Balaam can only speak what God puts in his mouth, demonstrating that God's purposes cannot be thwarted by human schemes.
