Rehoboam prepares to fight the northern tribes, but God through the prophet Shemaiah forbids it, and the people obey. Rehoboam fortifies cities in Judah and Benjamin. Priests and Levites from the north migrate south because Jeroboam rejected them, strengthening Judah spiritually.
