What does Romans 15:13 mean?

Romans 15:13 (KJV) reads: "Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope." It sits in Romans chapter 15, a piece of doctrinal letter on the gospel of grace from the New Testament, and is most often read as a verse about thinking of you. The meaning sharpens when you read the verses immediately around it and notice how Romans as a whole is arguing its case.

What is the context of Romans 15:13 in Romans?

Romans 15:13 belongs to Romans 15, which fits inside Romans's wider message as doctrinal letter on the gospel of grace. Before applying the verse, read at least the paragraph it appears in so you can see who is speaking, who is being addressed, and what situation prompted the words.

Is Romans 15:13 from the Old or New Testament?

Romans 15:13 is from the New Testament — specifically the book of Romans, chapter 15. That matters because New Testament verses are written after the resurrection and speak directly into the life of the church under the new covenant.
