What does Song of Solomon 4:7 mean?

Song of Solomon 4:7 (KJV) reads: "Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee." It sits in Song of Solomon chapter 4, a piece of covenant love poetry from the Old Testament, and is most often read as a verse about bridal shower. The meaning sharpens when you read the verses immediately around it and notice how Song of Solomon as a whole is arguing its case.

What is the context of Song of Solomon 4:7 in Song of Solomon?

Song of Solomon 4:7 belongs to Song of Solomon 4, which fits inside Song of Solomon's wider message as covenant love poetry. Before applying the verse, read at least the paragraph it appears in so you can see who is speaking, who is being addressed, and what situation prompted the words.

Is Song of Solomon 4:7 from the Old or New Testament?

Song of Solomon 4:7 is from the Old Testament — specifically the book of Song of Solomon, chapter 4. That matters because Old Testament verses are usually addressed first to ancient Israel under the Mosaic covenant, and Christians read them through the lens of Christ's fulfilment.
