Who Wrote the Bible — Meaning Explained

The Bible is a collection of 66 books written by roughly 40 different authors over a span of about 1,500 years (approximately 1400 BC to AD 95). These authors included kings (David, Solomon), prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah), a physician (Luke), fishermen (Peter, John), a tax collector (Matthew), a tentmaker (Paul), and a cupbearer (Nehemiah). Despite this diversity of authors, backgrounds, and time periods, the Bible maintains a remarkable unity of theme and message. This is because, while human hands wrote the words, God Himself was the ultimate Author. 2 Timothy 3:16 declares, 'All scripture is given by inspiration of God,' and 2 Peter 1:21 explains, 'Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.' God did not dictate the words mechanically — each author's personality, vocabulary, and style shine through — but He superintended the process so that the result is exactly what He intended. The Bible is therefore both fully human and fully divine in its authorship.
