What "Who Was Samuel in the Bible?" Actually Means
Samuel was born in answer to his mother Hannah's fervent prayer and was dedicated to God's service from infancy (1 Samuel 1). He grew up serving in the tabernacle under Eli the priest and received his prophetic calling as a boy when God spoke to him at night. As the last judge of Israel, Samuel led the nation spiritually and judicially. When the people demanded a king, God directed Samuel to anoint Saul, and later David. Samuel faithfully confronted Saul's disobedience and remained a trusted voice of God throughout his life. He exemplifies faithful service, prophetic courage, and devotion to God from childhood through old age.
