Who Was Oholiab in the Bible — Meaning Explained

Oholiab, also spelled Aholiab, son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan, was appointed by God as Bezaleel's chief assistant in the construction of the tabernacle. God said, 'I have put with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee.' Oholiab was described as an 'engraver, and a cunning workman, and an embroiderer in blue, and in purple, and in scarlet, and fine linen.' While Bezaleel was from the royal tribe of Judah, Oholiab was from Dan, one of the tribes that would later be associated with idolatry. This pairing demonstrates that God's calling transcends tribal status. Together, Bezaleel and Oholiab led the construction of the most sacred structure in Israel's history.
