The Biblical Context
Hezekiah became king when Judah was in spiritual decline. He reopened and cleansed the Temple, destroyed idols, and reinstated Passover worship. When the Assyrian king Sennacherib threatened Jerusalem, Hezekiah prayed, and God sent an angel who destroyed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in one night. When told he would die of illness, he prayed again, and God added 15 years to his life. He is one of the few kings praised for doing right in God's sight.
