The Book of Job tells the story of a wealthy, righteous man whom God described as 'none like him in the earth' (Job 1:8). Satan challenged that Job only served God because of his blessings, so God permitted Satan to take Job's possessions, children, and health—but not his life. Job's three friends argued he must have sinned to deserve such suffering, but Job maintained his innocence. A fourth speaker, Elihu, emphasized God's sovereignty.
