Who Was Eliezer of Damascus — Meaning Explained

Eliezer of Damascus first appears in the biblical record when a childless Abraham refers to him as the heir of his house. In Genesis 15:2, Abraham laments, 'Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?' Although God later promised Abraham a biological son, Eliezer remained a faithful and trusted member of the household. His most significant mission is recorded in Genesis 24, where Abraham charges his eldest servant — widely identified as Eliezer — with the task of traveling to Mesopotamia to find a wife for Isaac among Abraham's kindred.
